About This Boat

Ocean Safari: Whale Watching

Each year Mozambique’s 2500 kilometres of coastline hosts the great Humpback Whale Migration. Humpbacks move north to the warmer waters to breed and calve. From July to October mothers and calves can be seen frolicking in the waters off the northern coast of Mozambique. And from onboard the Edna you get to see these gentle giants up close and personal.

Harnessing only the power of wind we are so quiet, you can hear the whales blow. It’s a unique opportunity to watch as mothers teach young ones to spy-hop, tail slap and breach. On each trip so far there has been an extra bonus. We’ve seen dolphins, schools of yellow-fin tuna, flying fish and huge peixe agulha (garfish) dancing across the surface of ocean.

After our fill of whale watching we head towards Ilha das Sete Paus for some gorgeous snorkelling. And then go ashore onto the dazzling white sands of this uninhabited island for a delicious picnic lunch and a refreshing cerveza (cold beer) or refresco (soft drink). After lunch we have time to relax and soak up the sun, loll about in the dreamy turquoise waters and wander along the beach crammed with exquisite shells and white washed corals before sailing back to Ilha.

A truly, unforgettable day.
