About This Boat

The MacGregor 26 is the perfect boat for the Gulf of California. It is "bath tub sailing" and we believe the boat is like an RV on the water, to go from one gorgeous anchorage to the next. The MacGregor 26 Power sailor is the most practical boat for the Gulf of California. It always amazing how well the boat sails and if something bad brews up, the 50 Hp engine can speed the boat to the next protected anchorage.

The sailing is surprisingly good, motoring is fine and the 50HP outboard gives a nice speed if necessary. Sailing with about 6 Knots or using the 50 hp outboard for 18 Knots.

There is a dinghy on board, an LP gas BBQ, a stereo radio with CD player and all amenities for an extended sailing trip. Almost everything is supplied. Just bring your personal stuff. The cockpit is very spacious and is even comfortable to sleep outside and there is also a bimini top with side curtains and a dodger for shade. There is a dinette for 4 which also converts into a comfortable bed.

Actually, 3 sailors are plenty, 4 are to much, even so the boat sleeps 5. The V-Berth holds also the 12 V Norcold fridge / freezer, so it is comfortable to sleep, but only for one. There is STANDING HEADROOM throughout the boat !! No more bending over and bumping the head. The boat has also a small galley (kitchen) with sink and one burner alcohol stove.

The 110W solar panel powers the two gel - cell deep cycle 12 V batteries and there is plenty of power for all electric and electronic instruments and lights / fridge.

We expect from our charter guests, that they have some basic sailing experience. An ASA certificate will be fine, but not necessary if you can prove you are an responsible sailor. We will sit together with you and talk the trip over also with the charts, tell you where to go and especially where not, great fishing and snorkeling places and islands and beaches to explore.

The Sea of Cortez is NOT THE CARIBBEAN where you find at every harbor restaurants, bars, night life and supplies. As soon as you are a few miles away from La Paz, you will find only the most pristine nature, but no place to resupply or a "watering hole".

Since there are no marinas, you should know how to anchor with our oversize Bruce, 100 feet of chain and 200 feet of line.

The footprints on the beach you find are your own ones and there is nobody on the islands. Total solitude!

An anchorage that could hold a few hundred boats we call crowded if there are three or four boats in there.

• $169 per day / 5 days minimum
• $950 per week

Deposit: $150

Drop us a note and keep in mind: We are non profit and your really very low charter fee is donated to the different charities here in La Paz.

You can decide which one of the organisations should receive your donation. We are not permitted to show our donation site here where you can see where the charter fee goes.

But one thing is for sure, you will have an unforgettable sailing trip. The Sea of Cortez is fantastic!!

Rental Requirements

The boat can be sailed without restriction only in the Sea of Cortez. Home port is La Paz, Baja California Sur.

Before we let you take the boat out, we like to know a little about your sailing knowledge. We don't want to have the experience again that is visible on our web site.

Even so there is room for 5 sailors, we have only a registration with the SCT and Capitania de Puerto for only 3 people. With more than 3 the boat will be to crowded anyway.

There are pots and pans, silverware and everything essential on board to make a great meal. There is a real mount BBQ with LP gas in the back.

Watch where the dinghy floats when using the BBQ. Put it on the opposite site

We are non profit and asking for a donation to our local charities. After some guests donated for a week sailing only $ 20 Dollar and $ 100 Dollar, we had to set a minimum charter price of $ 950 Dollar / week, which is still very low cost. A Catalina 25 runs usually for $300 Dollar / Day. The charter guests can decide to which organisation the fee should be donated.

At reservation is a non refundable deposit of $ 150 Dollar due. The balance will be paid at arrival.

Sorry, we had already some negative experiences, that's why it is due before the trip.

Figure about at least 2 hours to go over the boat with you and planning the sailing trip with the charts, pointing out where to go, where to fish, where to snorkel, what to see, where to anchor and especially where not!!

We are ready to answer any question there will be. Just drop us a note.

Oh, and one more thing: The Sea of Cortez is GORGEOUS!!!!!
