About This Boat

OUPV, 100 Ton And The 200 Ton Courses

The lowest level Captains License is the Operator Uninspected Passenger Vessel (OUPV) course. This license was for many years termed the "6 Pack License". It is best to avoid the use of this old term, which came from the ability to carry six passengers for hire. This is a 56 hour course, which is the academic portion required to obtain your USCG OUPV Captains license. After completion of the course and the exam, which follows, the student may take their CSA Diploma and other required documentation to any REC office for the issue of the appropriate license. If the student has the necessary time on the water and meets the other requirements of the Coast Guard they may be licensed to carry up to six passengers for hire on an uninspected vessel. This is a popular initial license for operators of small dive boats, launches, and other minor commercial vessels, which never carry more than six passengers.

OUPV

The OUPV Coast Guard Licensing Course is a required total of 56 hours. There is homework to be completed, and you will need to review and study. Your Coast Guard License Exams will be conducted at the conclusion of the course.
