Frequently Ask Questions

How many passenger can travel on board?

Maximum number of passengers on La Dolce Vita is 4. (1 Seated with Skipper in CoPilot Seat and 3 seated behind on bench seat).

What shoes should I wear?

Please wear non marking flat soled comfortable shoes suitable to boating. Should you be dressed up for a Wedding or Function and have high heeled shoes, please note that it would be best to slip these off before embarking and whilst on the boat.

What clothes shoudl I wead?

Dress to suit the weather conditions. La Dolce Vita is a low slung open top fairweather boat so you will be exposed to the elements. In summer ensure you apply a good broad spectrum sunscreen and bring a hat. You will be exposed to the direct sun which can be intensified on the harbour. In winter dress warm. If weather conditions are choppy or there is potential of rain, then wear a water resistant spray coat or jacket as you may experience spray, splashes or direct rain. La Dolce Vita does have a retractable top, but cruising with the top is not ideal as it will limit your visibility of the beautiful harbour. We also supply blankets and towels on board should you need them.

Where can we cruise and what sights can we see?

La Dolce Vita is licensed to cruise in all the enclosed waters of Sydney Harbour. Some of the places you can cruise to include: Homebush Bay, Lane Cove, Hunters Hill, Birkenhead Point, Balmain, Cockatoo Island, Pyrmont, Darling Harbour, Rozelle, Sydney Fish Markets, Walsh Bay, North Sydney, Milsons Point, Luna Park, Circular Quay, The Rocks, Under the Harbour Bridge, Past the Opera House, Mrs Macquaries Chair, Fort Dennison, Shark Island, Taronga Zoo, Rushcutters Bay, Darling Point, Rose Bay, Point Piper, Watsons Bay, Camp Cove, Manly Wharf, Balmoral, Chinamans Beach, Middle Harbour, The Spit Bridge. See below for places you can be picked up and dropped off.

Where can we be picked up or dropped off?

La Dolce Vita is licensed as a Water Taxi and therefore can pick up and drop off passengers at most commercial and public wharfs in Sydney Harbour. Some of Sydney’s Wharves may not be ideal due to high wash or poor access so please contact us to work out the most convenient pick up & drop off location for your charter. Ideal Sydney Wharves would include: Cockle Bay Marina Darling Harbour, Casino Wharf Pyrmont, Campbells Cove Pontoon Circular Quay, East Circular Quay Pontoon.

Do you service manly and middle harbour areas such as the Spit and Balmoral?

We do service these areas however there is a minimum 2hr charge & customers must understand that service to this area is very weather dependent. In order to reach Manly or Middle Harbour we need to pass by the heads. Being such a low slung boat, this is only recommended in calm conditions. If there is moderate to high swell coming from the heads, then the passage across will not be suitable for La Dolce Vita and we would need to postpone or cancel your charter. Please bear this in mind when booking special occasions such as weddings.

Do you serve food and beverages?

La Dolce Vita is not licensed to serve food and beverages but we do keep bottled water on board should you get thirsty. Charterers are most welcome to bring aboard their own Food and Beverages or stop at one of the many harbour cafes or restaurants for a great meal or quick coffee. See below for some of the restaurants and cafes you can cruise up to. We can also recommend you to contact us who make beautiful gourmet picnic hampers which can be delivered to your home or the boat prior to boarding.

Is there a fridge on board?

No. But feel free to bring your own mini esky or make arrangements with us prior to your cruise and we will bring one for you.

Do you hire the boat for photoshoots?

The boat has starred in many photoshoots and has had many a celebrity on board including Miranda Kerr for UK Vogue, Jennifer Hawkins, Natalie Imbruglia and Jessica Marais for WHO Magazine Sexiest People 2010. It has starred on the Ministry of Sound Chillout Sessions 10 CD Front Cover and appeared in Vogue for Forever New fashion shoots. See our Experiences and Bookings section for more info and great pics.

Can I drive the boat myself?

No. Unfortunately not. La Dolce Vita must be skippered by one of our professional skippers.

What sort of boat is it?

La Dolce Vita is a Comitti Portofino 26ft Classic Italian Wooden Speedboat. It was imported from Lake Como in Italy to Australia in 2003. La Dolce Vita is the product of tradition, inspiration and craftsmanship manifested in mahogany wood. The hull shape was developed by Elia Comitti from the Comitti family designs of the La Dolce Vita period in the 1950′s. The chrome deck and hull fittings have been specially designed with a classic style that keeps in complete harmony with the flowing lines and glossy luster of the stained Mahogany hull and deck. It may be the only Comitti Portofino boat of this type in Sydney Harbour or in Australia.

Are there towels on board?

Yes, we always keep fresh towels onboard in case you get wet from spray and splashes. If you are planning on going for a swim or sunbaking we still recommend you bring your own beach towels.

Are there blankets on board?

Yes. We have a couple of nice fluffy blankets to curl under should it get cold.

Can you sleep on board?

No there is no saloon with any beds to sleep in, however you can feel free to have a nap on the rear sun bed when we are at anchor.

Is there a toilet on board?

No there are no toilets onboard so please pay a visit before coming aboard.

Will we get wet?

La Dolce Vita is a low slung open top fairweather boat. Due to the amount of boat activity in the harbour, and in choppy or windy conditions, you may experience spray and splashes coming into the boat. Your skipper is trained to minimise this, but if you do get sprayed, fresh towels are always kept on board to dry up. If you like we also have disposable ponchos that you can wear.

Can I play my own music?

Yes. There is an iPod compatible stereo system on board, or you can bring along your favourite CDs.

What happens if it rains?

La Dolce Vita is a low slung open top fairweather boat. If weather conditions are choppy or there is heavy rain, you may experience spray, splashes and will experiennce direct rain. La Dolce Vita does have a retractable top, but cruising with the top is not ideal as it will limit your visibility of the beautiful harbour. If you want to continue your journey in light rain, you are most welcome to do so as we have disposable ponchos that you can wear and supply towels on board should you need them. In the case of heavy rain or extreme choppy or windy conditions, your safety will be in the best interest of the Skipper and he will ultimately determine wether to alter the course of the cruise to seek shelter, or finalise the cruise at their sole discretion.

Can we use the aft sunbaking bed?

Yes. The comfy sunbaking lounge accommodates 3 people and can be used to sunbake, relax on, have a picnic or lay down and watch the stars or fireworks. The Sunbaking Bed can only be used when the boat is stationery either at anchor or at a Marina Berth (eg Darling Harbour or Fish Markets). It is prohibited by the NSW Maritime to travel on the Sunbaking Lounge whilst the boat is in motion.

Can we pull up to a beach?

We can certainly get you close to some of Sydneys Harbour Beaches, but we cannot drop you off on the sand. If there is a wharf or jetty near by we can let you jump off there, or if you are a confident swinmmer then feel free to jump off the boat when stationery and after instructed by the skipper, and swim to shore. We will be waiting for you.

Are there life jackets on board?

Yes. There are enough lifejackets fro all passengers. If you feel more comfortable wearing one whilst on board then just ask your skipper and he will supply you with one. Please advise us beforehand if you will be bringing children on board so that we can accomodate them as well.

How early should I arrive to my booking?

Please arrive 10-15 minutes prior to your booking time to ensure you get your full experience.
