About This Boat

Australia's most awarded charter yacht, "Sydney Sundancer",  is your 5 star floating hotel! Magnificently appointed with teak throughout, she weighs 37 tons and is very stable. All gourmet meals, snacks, guided bush walks on uninhabited islands, and drying reefs, guided snorkelling tours and glass bottom dive tender excursions are all included. The massive deck area ("Sydney Sundancer" is licensed for 70 guests in sheltered waters) ensures more than adequate space for private relaxation. Play toys include kayaks,  a double air bed and a pool chair for total comfort.  Top quality masks and snorkels and fins are provided, and a four and a half metre catamaran glass bottom dive tender ensures even non swimmers can view the friendly fish life and colourful corals! Getting in and out of the water is a breeze with deep ladders on the transom and tender.

With all 6 day charters,  visits to the outer Great Barrier Reef are a highlight (weather permitting)  and usually include a magical overnight stay where guests can watch the sun drop into the ocean in the West, and after a blissful nights sleep in the calm reef lagoon, you can watch the sun rise in the East the following morning -a truly unique experience.  "Sydney Sundancer" conducts expedition voyages for discerning explorers visiting remote and remarkable locations in the Worlds largest Marine Park.  All activities within are controlled by the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority who has granted Lynne and John Boyce (proud owners) exclusive permissions to visit unique locations and conduct activities where no other commercial vessel is permitted.  Lynne is the only professional guide in the whole Marine Park (which is about half the size of Texas) permitted to conduct reef walking excursions on the drying reef in the Whitsundays when it emerges from the sea at low tide.

Lynne and John have been personally introducing guests to the Whitsunday water wonderland for more than 30 years, they are your key to gaining a full appreciation for the wonders of nature both above and below the water.  "Sydney Sundancer" is available for either live aboard cabin bookings (maximum 8 guests) for 6 day / 6 night expedition cruises (cost from A$1,955 to A$3,400 per person for 6 days 6 nights depending on the chosen accommodation)  OR for live aboard private charter (up to 10 guests) for 1 night (24 hours) minimum, up to a week or more.  Departures from mid June to mid October each year are from Hamilton Island marina in the heart of the Whitsundays.  This is a critical consideration for those whose time is short because vessels departing from the mainland can take hours to get to the islands.  Within minutes of boarding "Sydney Sundancer" guests are immediately immersed in the islands that remain unchanged since discovery by Captain Cook in 1770.   Private day charters are also available for up to 20 guests.

Booking procedure

When a client confirms a date and time of a cruise, we block that period off from future enquiries for 7 days to allow the client time to pay the deposit.  If the deposit is not paid within the 7 days, the date and time of the booking becomes available for any other person /organisation to book.  Failure to complete the booking by payment of deposit will forfeit your rights to these times.

The deposit is A$6,000 for a private live aboard charter and $2,000 per person for a cabin booking where guests join others. For a day charter full payment of the charter is required to hold that booking.   If for any reason the charterer decides to cancel the charter, we refund the full charter fee less $100 if we are able to secure another charter for the same charter fee on the same date and time.  If not, there is no refund.  The reason for this is to prevent us being  “out of pocket” because of your decision to cancel.  For unforeseen medical cancellations we always suggest to take travel insurance immediately after booking. In some circumstances we can offer alternative dates.

Unsuitable weather

Our yacht is probably the most suitable sailing vessel to be aboard in inclement weather because it is a world cruising yacht, weighs 37 tons and is very stable even in the choppiest waters. In 32 years of chartering from June to October each year we have never had to cancel a charter because of inclement weather. We have rarely had rain and if it is windy, we simply choose areas that are protected from the prevailing winds.  Even in the windiest weather we always find calm sheltered bays out of the winds, thanks to our local knowledge. The hilly Whitsunday islands afford protection in all wind conditions.
