Rental Requirements

• Must be ASA 104 Bare Boat Charter certified, or equivalent certification, to sail independently, without a licensed captain or local certified sailor aboard.

• All independent sailors the first time sailing with us, need to plan for an extra hour for a boat and waterway location orientation-check out. This is a first time policy. If changing from outboard to inboard may incur a second orientation charge. If fail the check out, will need to re-schedule to provide time to find you a captain or arrange 'brush up' lessons. Suggest doing the checkout as early as possible to not miss the date you want to use the boat.

• Captain fee is $75 and hour. Local expert contribution to our non-profit side is $50 an hour.

• Need 10 days for us to be able to re-book the boat in order to provide you with a full refund. If 7 days notice is given = 50% refund or reschedule. If 5 days cancellation notice, can reschedule but no refund. If less than 5 days expect to forfeit charter fee. Can reschedule one time without penalty. Yes, that scam has been tried, too.

• Qualified-Certified sailors with SF Bay or similar area experience can charter a boat without a skipper. We do have 2 locations.  The boats range from 14 to 41 feet (contact our office for current availability and scheduling for each location).  To sail the Oakland area a minimum experience level equivalent is ASA Basic Keelboat. To sail ito the Central Bay 103 local training or ASA Bare Boat Charter if trained elsewhere level due to strong winds, currents and heavy marine traffic. Be prepared to show certification, list experience and a checkout is required.

• All sailors must have a good familiarity with their intended sailing venue, including prevailing conditions and dominant weather patterns.
• All non-certified charter requests-expect to pass a written, multiple choice test in addition to sailing demonstration.
• On-the-water demonstration of skill, includes heaving-to, reefing, crew-overboard recovery, and docking under control.
